The Basic Process
Save As Web Page
To begin with I will go through the actions required to create a basic web page from Project.
the project plan that you want to create an electronic report from.
Click on and the The Save As window will be displayed.
Note
In Project 98 the menu option is it was changed to web page for Project 2000 and future versions.
Save As
Choose a suitable location for the file to be saved, for the purposes of this tutorial I recommend saving all of the files on the Desktop. The file name will default to the same name as the project plan, but it will be given a .html extension rather than the normal .mpp.
Click on
The Export Mapping window will appear.
Export Mapping
You now have to choose which map Project will use to transfer data from your plan to your web page.
I'll go through the in’s and out’s of maps later, for now you need to select the only map designed to create a web page.
Click on Export to HTML using standard template and then on
That’s it, you’ve created a web page, an electronic report from your plan. So lets take a look at it.
Viewing your web page
You need a web browser to view a web page and it is an almost certainty that you have a suitable one installed on your computer. All you have to do is find the web page you have just created and double click on it. If you followed my advice and saved it on the desktop, simply minimise Project and double click on the icon of your web page.
OK, so it’s not very impressive, but that's not my fault, or yours for that matter—I blame Microsoft. It's all a bit last century.
The next two parts of this tutorial will consider how we can improve the appearance of the web page report. To start with we will add a snap-shot Picture of your Gantt Chart.
