Defining an Export Map
The trick to producing a good electronic report from Project is the careful modifying of the Export map—the program that transports the data into the web page.
The export map is the key part of the process of saving a web page. The only way to view and edit an export map is to go through the process saving a web page, so that is what we will do.
Repeat the process of selecting , . Choose a location and file name and click
The Export Wizard window is displayed. Click on
Creating a New map from scratch is tricky so we'll edit and existing one: Select radio button and click
We are going to modify the map we used to create our first web page. Select Export to HTML using standard template and once again click on the to display the Export Wizard - Map Options page.
Map Options
The Export Wizard - Map Options page defines the overall content and appearance of the web page.
Remember the web page that you created earlier, it contained three tables: Tasks, Resources and Assignments. The three checkboxes in the section gives you control over which of the tables will appear in your report. If you do not require a table of assignments you simply uncheck the option.
HTML options
The option places the Project Title at the top of your web page, it is common sense to keep this chechbox selected.
Assignments are displayed in Projects Task Usage and Resource Usage views. When they are included in a web page they add a lot of data to a table but little value. Unless you have a specific need for this information keep the option switched off.
Selecting a template
We have now reached the point where we specify the web page template. Ensure that the option is checked and then click on the associated button. Navigate to the folder in which you have stored the Trinity Projects templates and select one. Can I recommend yellow_zone.htm
Adding a Picture
To include your previously created picture in the report, switch on Project should automatically select the image you recently created. If it doesn't do this then you will have to use the to locate the file.
To see the effect of these small changes we will create a web page. Click on until you reach the Export Wizard - End of Map Definition page. Before you click on to "complete the operation" it's a good idea to save the map that you have modified so you won't have to make the same changes again. Click on button and then type Web Page Map in the Text Box and click on and then to create your modified web page.
Now find your newly created web page, open it and check out the improvements. The first difference you will notice will be the picture of your project which is now part of the report. The other major change is to the layout of the report. The tables are no longer displayed one below the other, they are now on separate pages and you click on the buttons to see each of the tables.
Having dealt with the style of the report it is now time to consider how to use Mapping to determine the content.
