Save As Web Page Tutorial

Pictures

Adding a picture (or screen shot) of your project plan can improve the look of your electronic report.

In this section you see how to create an image file from a view in Project.  To begin with you will need to choose a Project View such as the Gantt Chart or the Network Diagram.  For this exercise we will use the Tracking Gantt (View Tracking Gantt).  Then you can tidy up the screen to make it look good, See the sidebar for tips.

When you are happy with the appearance of your project find the Copy Picture button, it is at the right-hand side of the standard toolbar and looks a little like a camera.

Copy Picture is used to create high quality images of your project for use in documents, presentations and web pages.

Render Image

The first section, render image, controls the type of image that Project will produce.

The For screen option will copy an image to the clipboard which has been optimised for display in a presentation.  This can be placed in PowerPoint, or a similar program, using the paste command.

For printer is a similar function, but the image is optimised for print, it should be used when copying in to a word processor.

To GIF image file: is the option to choose when you require a picture for a web page.  It creates a stand-alone image file which can be included in you page later.  When this option is chosen it determines a location and file name for the image from the project plan you are using.  You can use the browse button to choose another location or file name.  For this example I suggest the same location as your web page—the Desktop.

Copy

The Copy section gives you a certain amount of control over what will appear in your picture.  You use this feature to define which rows (i.e. tasks or resources) will be included.  The options of  Selected rows and  Rows on screen don't need explanation.  However, if you haven't already selected the required rows you may want to come out of Copy Picture (Click  Cancel ) and select the row of the Gantt Chart that you require for your web page picture and then return to Copy Picture

Timescale

Timescale is used to control which days, weeks or months will appear in your picture.  You can specify range dates, but the normal process is to use the Zoom controls before hand and then use the  As shown on screen option.

To create your image file click on    OK

With the picture created we will now look at how we can include it in the web page.  This means we will have to look into templates.
